Your favorite way to be active. Why do you love it?
I’ll go out at the very beginning of sunset and go on a walk, or jog when I feel like it. Making it home by dusk is the goal. It’s so therapeutic; I’m not worried about checking my phone. Using the sky as my natural timer makes for really feel-good scenery.

A good night of dancing is never regretted, either.

Three ways you get inspired
Watching beautiful cinematography, really getting into a good song or album that I’m feeling at the moment, or getting supercharged by my friends that are living out their own jobs well done.

Find yourself in a slump, how do you motivate yourself?
It sounds like it should be instinct, but I really have to get my mindset set hard into the mode of: “Okay. Today. Is. A. New. Day.” Once a flicker of freshness ignites, whether the sun is out or the coffee’s good, I get to feeling at least a little better.

What advice do you have for dealing with stress?
I go in self-care mode. I love face masks, doing my own nails, and putting on a sweet little movie like Pride & Prejudice or you know…Lord of the Rings.

Take a moment to care for yourself, whether you’d like to be alone, vent to a friend, or completely ignoring your own stress and enjoying listening to how other’s days are going – it all works. With the latter, that’s two birds in one stone. Someone will be glad they have you to listen to them.

What makes you feel strong?
When I was at my lowest, most down and out depressed, my grandma reminded me to: “Focus on what I do have, rather than what I don’t have, or what I can’t control.” Dwelling on things that I can’t control sends me spiraling. I will never find strength in that.

I welcome what opportunities open up to me. I work hard on the things I believe in. I appreciate the people I have in my life. These are things that I can count on, and it makes me feel strong.

You’re in a room of teenage girls, what is the best advice you can give them?
1) Being a pleasure to work with, or to be around goes a long way.
2) Getting lost (read: embracing) in love is a feeling beyond words, but losing yourself in someone else doesn’t always turn out so well. Remember your identity!
3) Listen to your mom, your dad, your friends when they need someone to talk to.
4) Coming into your own doesn’t just happen, and it certainly doesn’t happen soon. It just builds along the way. Go ahead and hate the downs. Be thankful and celebrate the ups. Open up to the idea that change is inevitable.

Who is one female, other than your mother, that propelled, supported, or gave you an opportunity in your life or career? What was her best advice?
I’m very grateful for the women in my life – Each so different from the other.  My friend, Nikole, I’ve known for a few years and from the very beginning she’s helped facilitate my creativity, and supports my outbursts of various ideas and projects. That being said, her career is definitely much more grounded than mine. As the owner of her vintage + modern lifestyle shop, Preservation, she’s planned and pulled through on so many rad decisions, events, and collaborations. She’s always there if I need to talk, but I’d say Nikole leads by example. Her determination is tangible.

Do you have any advice for someone struggling with body image?
It’s almost a default to be your body’s harshest critic, at one point or another. Maybe you’re past that or it comes and goes, or you’re in the depths of struggling in this moment. It’s easier said than done but when you’re able to open your heart and be kind to yourself, give yourself that self-care in whatever form you want. Do something that will make you laugh, read, clean, have lunch with your mom, find other ways and other things to feel good about! It leads to finding peace with the endless other qualities you have to offer.

I think in 2017 it’s important that women…because…
Are just as kind to ourselves as we should be as kind to others.

What is a goal you have in 2017? Why is it important?
I want to be comfortable with my living situation. If I’m living with roommates or concerned about budget – I just really think feeling good with your homebase can make a huge difference with your physical and mental well-being on a daily basis.

What beauty product can you not live without?
Highlighters/ illuminators to give me that fresh hot (read: sweaty) vacation face.

My eyelash curler is so great! I don’t have to wear or have mascara rubbing off my eyes.
