Whats your favorite way to be active and why do you love it?
My favorite way to be active is through dance or by taking a dance class! I enjoy taking different dance classes because its a great way to be active and keep my heart rate up without the monotony of a traditional gym session. Another reason why I love dancing as an exercise is because it builds self confidence! When I dance I feel I am one with my body and just flow with the music. After a great session I feel more confident and carefree then when I initially started!
When you find yourself in a slump, how do you motivate yourself?
Typically when I’m down in the gutter I give my mom a call, and she always knows just what to say, even when its a harsh reality. Even though its not always what I was expecting to hear she follows up her sometimes unruly advice with some encouraging words of wisdom, love, hope and right on time bible scriptures. Although sometimes I shrug my shoulders or laugh her advice off she continues to remind me of a particular verse that says, “Faith without works is dead.” [James 2:14] Reminding me that I can have anything I dream in life as long as I am willing to put the hard work and effort in to make it a reality.
What is your best advice for dealing with stress?
One way that I have learned to deal with stress is by tackling my duties head on! A lot of times I become stressed due to feeling like I have a lot of things to get done, and when I know I’m not getting things done I become anxious so to cope with the stress I make lists. Lists of things that need to get done and I organize them by priority, importance, and smaller goals that can be met in between. As I complete each task I check them off of the list and instantly relieves me of the stress as I begin to complete task after task.
What advice for women do you have regarding body image?
My advice would be to know as a woman you are good enough and that our bodies were meant to do and create amazing things, no matter the size, shape, or color. Know what makes you different from others and embrace it, make it an asset! Like a wise man once said confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear, and when you love yourself, others recognize that. So my advice is to take care of your body and your mind, because you only get one! There will always be things about ourselves we wish we could change and so theres nothing wrong with working on that. Like the women of my family would always say to me was, ” Work what ya mama gave ya!” And no matter how scared, shy, or unconfident I felt, in the moment I owned it. So, my advice is to own it!
What issue regarding women is important to you and how are you supporting it?
The Free the Nipple campaign has been a movement that has always interested me, not only for the name but because its a global movement dedicated to woman’s rights and equality, empowerment and freedom for all humans. Free the Nipple is one of the premier voices for gender equality by utilizing social media to raise awareness on various social issues and injustices. It also fights back at body shamers and those who deem breastfeeding in public as taboo. I support the movement by donating through purchasing Free the Nipple Merchandise and also by actually ‘freeing the nipple’ from time to time! LOL. I do plan on being more vocal in my efforts to support the movement in the future through rallying and in whatever way possible.
How do you bounce back from failure?
I believe that you must first realize where and what went wrong, make adjustments and try again. Mistakes are inevitable in life, but you have to remember that you can turn what seemed to be a failure can be turned into a lesson and rise above it. I get a lot of my inspiration from music and song lyrics and like the late and great Aaliyah said in one of her most famous songs, “if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again, try again.” So thats all you can do is try again, truly words to live by.
The best thing a woman can be is
Name three things you love right now
What song or playlist pumps you up?
On Apple Music I am currently obsessed with the Eric Bellinger playlist. This playlist is R&B and my go to anytime I’m getting ready for a date or even to go out, his music makes me feel ultra sexy and unapologetically fly and womanly. He praises woman for being woman and encourages beauty, brains, and confidence.
I feel most confident when…
I feel most confident when my teeth are extra white and bright along with wearing matching bra and panty set! I don’t make them match often so when I do I feel extra confident. Knowing that at any given moment my lady parts are covered in style and I am ready for whatever life decides to throw at me!
