What is your favorite way to be active? Why do you love it?
Lifting weights with a partner, usually my sister. I love it because you can get so much variety into your workout, I love feeling strong, and I love the bonding and encouragement that happens with a lifting partner.
What advice do you have for dealing with stress?
As a first-year teacher, I’ve dealt with more stress than ever this year and had lots of stress-induced Google sessions: “I’m a terrible teacher and I’m ruining kids lives help” “How to fake a broken leg to miss a month of work.” Ha! I have found that going to the gym with a buddy is a great way to relieve stress. Also, dive into a project during really stressful moments–playing piano, reading a book, cooking a meal. Also online shopping…but I recommend the first two as healthier options. 🙂
The best thing a woman can be is…
PROUD, SELF-SUFFICIENT, CONFIDENT. (My lovely students Bryer, Dajai, and Taylor gave me those).
You’re in a room of teenage girls, what is the best advice you can give them?

What issue regarding women is important to you and how are you supporting it?
I am horrified by the declining support of Planned Parenthood. I think women’s access to healthcare and freedom of choice when it comes to their bodies is so important, and here in the United States we need to set an example of this. I honestly don’t do enough to support this issue. A goal of mine in 2017 is to become a more active advocate of the issues I believe in.
I think in 2017 it’s important that women…because…
I think in 2017 it’s important that women build each other up because together, who can stop us?
What advice would you give a young woman about seeking a career?
Don’t be afraid to fail and feel like you made the wrong choice. Give yourself time to adjust to new life changes and careers. There will ALWAYS be time to try something different–but don’t give up on anything too quickly. Enjoy the present while you are in it!
