Three ways you get inspired
I find nature to be my biggest inspiration. The mountains are a major calling for me, but I also love being surrounded by trees or swimming in the ocean. If I can’t access nature easily, I get inspiration from people; I recall past conversations or initiate new ones to feel inspired. And last but certainly not least, I pour myself a strong cup of black coffee and let the inspiration seep in.

What advice do you have for dealing with stress?
Lace up your shoes and go for a run. Anytime I need to think, let go, or navigate this crazy beautiful world I find a wooded trail and run until life makes sense again.

The best thing a woman can be is
Confident. Inner confidence is key. There will be times when this world is going to expose it’s most disgusting, dangerous, and demonic side to you, but that inner confidence will allow for you to find your way back to the beauty.

You’re in a room of teenage girls, what is the best advice you can give them?
Look around you. All of these girls next to you are part of your support team. We as women should constantly be rooting for each other, inspiring one another, and lifting each other up. Never forget to both give that support, and to allow for others to help you when you are struggling.

What advice would you give a young woman struggling with body image?
I can’t say if it gets easier with age, but at a certain point, you realize that you are more than your jean size. You are more than a pretty face, and you have more to offer this world than your looks. We have all had our moments, some more intense than others, but the sooner you accept yourself, the sooner you will see your own beauty. And listen to your mother when she tells you how beautiful you are, because she is the only opinion that matters.

What is the best way to bounce back from a failure/mistake?
Own it. Seriously, own your mistake and get over it. I am so thankful for my mistakes, because I am better now in spite of it. You learn more from your mistakes than you ever will from your success.

What advice would you give a young woman about seeking a career?
Think big picture. Ask yourself where you want to be in 5 years, 8 years, 10 years; once you know that, then you can start to take risks and go for it. I’m certainly not taking the conventional route to my dream career, but I’ve found that by carving my own path, I am putting myself on the right road. Listen to your intuition, and always remember why you started.

List three things you love right now
Bulletproof coffee
Alpaca sweaters
The Xhosa saying, “Ubuntu”. The closest translation is “I am because you are.”

Tips for saving money in your 20s?
Do you really need another pair of black boots? Spend your money on experiences not things.

I feel most confident when I’m wearing…
Red lips. Is there anything more iconic than a perfectly pouted red lip? I call my alter ego, “Iq’Häla”, and she is teeming with confidence, so she always comes out when I don a red lip.

What beauty product can you not live without?
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery serum. I put on the lavender scented oil at night, and my skin is perfect the next day. It’s a miracle worker and my make up free skin thanks it!
